When Esther Wang thinks back to her time in the orchestra pit at Stevenson High School, she always remembers her teacher’s funny but practical reminder—to wear deodorant in that closed space under the stage. For her, that small detail became a symbol of what true teamwork means. Real collaboration doesn’t happen under bright lights but behind the scenes, with patience, care, and quiet effort toward a common goal.
Esther’s journey from Stevenson High School in Chicago to Sendelta International Academy in Shenzhen has been full of learning and exploration. In Grade 9, although freshmen weren’t allowed to take AP courses, she chose to study AP Chinese by herself and earned a perfect score. Later, in the IntuitIntuitive Social Innovation Challenge, she learned an important lesson—that people are the most valuable resource. Her team won a regional prize, but what mattered more to her was learning how to design meaningful and enjoyable experiences for others.
Esther always prefers to take action. In the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competition, she and her teammates produced their own video and advanced all the way to the national finals. During the “Give-a-thon” fundraiser, she sold fortune cookies and Yakult drinks to raise hundreds of dollars for charity. Even when she missed a student council position because of a late form submission, she learned to act earlier and manage time better.
Not every attempt brought success—her mock trial team didn’t win regionals, and her AMC math results were not ideal—but she kept exploring. She joined the law club, debate club, math team, and pen-pal club, believing that each experience could teach her something new.
After transferring to Shenzhen, Esther quickly adapted to her new school community. As the deputy head of the Student Clubs Department, she suggested a new poster management system to make the school environment more organized. She also led monthly club president meetings, helping solve problems through clear and kind communication. She believes that small details build a strong community.
One of her proudest projects is the “Stars and Silver YearsAge” club, which she helped create by combining two smaller groups. The club organized a variety of meaningful events—from a Halloween fundraiser and a lecture about cerebral palsy to family hikes and birdwatching activities. Esther took part in everything, whether it was moving props at a charity dinner or playing violin at the school’s open day.
Her biggest achievement so far is theInspireMe Festival, which connected three schools and over eighty volunteers to host an event for children with autism. Esther and her team designed games, art sessions, and performances, giving the children a chance to shine on stage.
She also continues her role as concertmaster of the SanMao Orchestra. Besides leading rehearsals, she designs posters and promotes the group so that more students know it exists. Inspired by this, she started a personal storytelling project called Sendeltan Odyssey, where she records the voices and stories of students who are often overlooked.
Esther Wang is not just an excellent student—she is also creative, observant, and caring. Her achievements are not about winning big prizes but about putting heart and effort into everything she does. Whether she’s organizing events, leading a rehearsal, or helping a teammate, she shows that real excellence grows quietly—from curiosity, kindness, and responsibility, not from the spotlight.
